Freelance web design job opportunities are easier to find than ever before. Yet because of the rising demand for web designers in the past decade, freelance web design has become an increasingly popular career choice. The internet has paved the way for businesses to broaden their client bases and to reach customers globally, thus creating a large lucrative market for freelance web designers. But how can a freelance web designer find enough work in such a competitive market to sustain a steady income? Learning to find freelance web design job opportunities can be as simple as browsing online job boards, using bidding sites, and/or seeking clients locally. The secret to finding steady work as a freelance web designer is to build a satisfied client base who will be happy to recommend your work to others. Make the most of every contact, and use every available option for finding freelance web design job opportunities.

Seek Local Clients
Although there are a wealth of jobs to be found online, many freelance web designers prefer to find local clients. Freelancers can find local clients by cold calling local professionals and businesses. Some freelancers use a marketing kit that includes a mailer, brochure, and even press releases.

Browse Online Job Boards
There are many different types of job boards online, ranging from exclusive freelance job sites to corporate job boards. Many online job boards dedicated exclusively to freelance web design jobs. Others cater to a broader design market to include not only freelance website design jobs but also freelance graphic design work, illustration jobs, creative design work, programming and development jobs. All types of job boards can offer freelance web design job opportunities, but by visiting job boards focused only on freelance work, finding work as a freelance web designer is usually easier. Many online job boards allow users to post an online resume or portfolio page, making it easier for those seeking a freelance web designer to hire one directly rather than posting a job ad.

Use Bidding Sites
In addition to more traditional job boards, where an employer posts an ad for applicants to respond to directly, many freelance web site designers have luck finding jobs at freelance bidding sites. These sites work a bit like an auction, except that the job is not automatically awarded to the lowest bidder. An employer posts a freelance web design job, and freelance website designers bid on the job by quoting a price for the project. An advantage of bidding sites is that most allow those seeking freelance web design job opportunities to fill out a portfolio page listing areas of expertise and other details, so employers can come to them.

For freelance web design work, visit the Go Freelance job board. Choose from many fresh freelance web design jobs, freelance graphic design jobs, freelance illustration jobs and more.

Static Web Site Advantage & Disadvantage

Unlike Server-side dynamic web pages that usually reflect the language or technology used at the server, such as PHP, Java Server Pages, or many others, taking associated URL/filename extensions e.g. .php or .jsp; the Static website pages usually have the filename extension .htm or .html. For static web pages the web browser are provided with simple (X) HTML and other texts by these technologies. Without using the tool or knowing HTML coding a static website that is built using a development tool such as Dream weaver or FrontPage can not be edited. The static pages will not have any server side scripting (such as ASP, PHP etc) because all information on the page is stored as HTML.

The static web site is one that is manually maintained by some person or persons using some type of editor software and is not expected to change frequently. Three types of editor software are used for this purpose which are

* Text editors: Notepad or Text Edit, which manipulates the HTML directly within the editor program.
* WYSIWYG editors: Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dream weaver that edit the site by a GUI interface and the editor software generate the underlying HTML automatically.
* Template-based editors: Rapid weaver and iWeb which permit users to promptly create and upload websites to a server without having the prior knowledge of anything about HTML, as they just select a required template from a palette and add text and pictures to it in a DTP-like fashion without ever having to see any HTML code.

Unless the web site designers edit the pages manually, static web pages cannot be changed. As soon as they are added to the site, they are changed on the web automatically. In general any changes in a document remove the earlier versions of the pages from the web.

The average website is collection of documents written in the HTML code or language. The HTML code for "The Standard Website" is static. It means the user have to see the exact same content every time if he reloads a static website. The user can download the code into a browser and interrupt but he cannot rewrite it as its content is written directly by an author.
Advantages of static websites

* As fewer pages are needed therefore cheaper to implement on a smaller scale .
* As there is no need for any management system therefore good for smaller companies.
* As you are not restricted to any template layout therefore more flexibility is available .

Disadvantages of static websites

* As any changes have to be made to web pages individually therefore more expensive to maintain in the long term.
* As if the person with web skills could fall ill or leave increases risk to business because the site can no longer be maintained effectively.
* If changes need to be made then this is only possible where the editor tool is installed because management is restricted to one machine.
* Website editors need significant skills and training to develop the website to modern day practises and standards because this is expensive, ongoing and time consuming.

Either small or large, a business is prescribed to have an affordable web site design in this highly dominated market where each and every time someone has to fight hard to sell the products and services. A Professional web design would give leverage to the company: whenever the users would search for the relevant products or services in the search engines, they can have the possibility of seeing the web site of that company.

To have an online identity in the era of internet marketing a website is of utmost importance. It is the online representation of any company with an access to sell company's name, attract more visitors, generate more business leads, promote more sale of company's products and services and finally, it helps to reap more return on investment.

The existence of any business is manifest in different ways, and internet medium is the fastest and easiest means whereby a business gets noticed by the public at large. Once any information is put in the web, it becomes global. The intelligent buyers can easily know about any site and, off course, its products and services through that website.

So the popularity as well as the promotion is best done by this flexible medium. A web site gives its target audience a chance to know the site in a best possible way.

In this case two things are vital: SEO or the Search Engine Optimization and the Web Usability.

An SEO is a marketing technique to increase the number of visitors in a website by adopting some methodical and intelligent rules; if the SEO is sound enough, the visitors can see your site in the Search Engine Return Page as and when they enter a keyword that is also targeted for your web site. So, the proper keyword targeted is essential, and that is another crucial part of internet marketing. Lots of researches have been there for this.

On the other hand, web usability is nothing but a feasibility by which a user can roam in a site, i.e. user friendliness. It is for sure that once you are able to bring a user to your website your next step would be to hold that user as much time as possible, and that is called site popularity.

At times by an effective SEO tactic you can bring users to your site, but from then on you should think of how long you can keep users in your site. And that part is solely dependent over a successful and professional web site design approach.

The more the site popularity of a web site, the more would be the likelihood of any company to promote itself.

Following are the universal features in a Professional web site design; these aspects are responsible for the higher site popularity of a web site.

* Your web site should be easy to read

* Your web site should be easy to navigate

* Your web site should be easy to find

* Your web page layout and design should be consistent throughout the site

* Your web site should be quick to download

There can be two types of website designs such as: static and dynamic. A static website design is based on HTML codes, whereas a dynamic website design is developed with advanced and sophisticated technologies based on the information provided in the database.

If you want to outshine high on your business, you need to have a website design and development that must be dealt with great care. Numerous companies are there in the market; they can give promising and affordable web site design solution at a cheap rate. At the same time, false promise making dudes are also in abundance.

Before making your web site design you should know about certain things to clarify, and rather ask yourself. In that sense, you must be aware of which are the aspects that need settled before the web design is made.

As such, there must be certain rules before asking for big or small business web design to any web design professional:

1. What is the nature of the business?
2. What is the company name?
3. What is the target audience?
4. What is the logo?
5. Does the company have any tag line?
6. How many pages the company plans to make?
7. What would be the intended navigational structure?
8. Would there be any existing site, which needs to be redesigned or would a completely new site be made?
9. What about the site preference? What are the likeable features in those sites?
10. Would there be any color preference?
11. Would the site be a dynamic or a static one?

Shop - Is Shopping Online Secure?

Is shopping online becoming popular and safe enough for you and I to do the vast majority of our shopping on the Internet?

Is shopping online becoming popular and safe enough for you and I to do the vast majority of our shopping on the Internet?

As I contemplated, when I initially set up my website: www.shopshopshop.org The first thought that came to mind was will they come and will they spend money? Sure people are always curious and some will visit but will they stay long enough to spend some money?

Safety was the first concern of those I had spoken to, they were somewhat skeptical and therefore reluctant to make any online purchases. It is our responsibility as online marketers to convince them to about the safety of online shopping.

We all know about the convenience of getting on the computer and viewing the sale that retailers are using to entice the shoppers into making a commitment. But are not always as eager to go ahead and complete the purchase online.

The internet today is as safe or safer than making purchase in person, I recently read an article where BJ Wholesalers was fined by the Securities and Exchange Commission for not having sufficient security to protect Credit Card users.

Most of the buying we do today is pay for by either a credit card or a debit card. So If you think that when you purchase gas and pay for it at the pump with your credit card or debit card that you are making a safe purchase think again.

I recently purchase gas at my favorite gas station and paid for it at the pump with my debit card, only to find out two weeks later when the bank call me to question some of purchases that were charge to my debit card.

It seems that somebody was making purchases that were very uncharacteristic for me. And the institution where I have been banking for many years was able to detect this and all my money was refunded and a new card issued.

I was fortunate in the incident just described, but back to online shopping, most of the retailers that do business online have very good security to protect the buyers. After all they would rather you make your purchases online,

Online shopping is much more profitable for the stores and safer and besides no shoplifting takes place on the internet, so the store want to protect this revenue source by making it safe as well as convenient.

Another willing partner is the credit card companies themselves they want you and I to continue using the plastic, and are doing all they can to protect the credit card user.

In our website we have a page titled credit card fraud protection, with direct links to the major credit card companies website and anti fraud page, so that shoppers can read what the credit card companies are doing to protect them from fraud and identity theft.

As more and more people become aware of the security measures being undertaken to protect them, they will avail themselves of the convenience of doing their shopping online and use the time they save for pleasure and family activities.

People today are always in a hurry and don’t usually have time to wait on long lines for cashier to ring them up, when they can accomplish the same thing without leaving the house.

This is more attractive to younger active people would rather play a round of golf or a couple of sets of tennis than fight the maddening crowds.

10 Backup ESSENTIALS for all Webmasters

More and more webmasters nowadays do not value the importance of a complete website backup. Chances are, they are doomed.

More and more webmasters nowadays do not value the importance of a complete website backup (files and databases). They have left this to chance and good luck which poses a great risk to their online presence.

Can you relate to this? Then read this important article which might save you an arm and a leg later.

Web site backup is the most ignored task of the webmasters simply because it poses no immediate threat to them until something worse happen to their hosting server. Many times, this task is set aside, delayed and even regarded as nuisance to the busy website owner.

They just don't realize what is at stake here.

So before your website is wiped out of the internet by unexpected accidents like server breakdowns, harddisk failures, hacking and DDOS attacks among other bad things, let me share with you the 10 Backup E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L-S you should not live without online.

EXPECT - Know that your webhosting company (even the biggest and the most boastful out there) may encounter problems and that your diligence to backup will pay off later on. Online computing has never been so unpredictable that the worse of times will happen when you least expect it. With the proper mindset, you are insuring the continuity of your online endeavor in any eventualities. In short, be ready.

SCHEDULE - Your backup process should not compete with your busy schedules. Create your own backup schedule at the most convenient time for you in the week. If you're like me, I do this during lunch and dinner times. Sometimes, I have to leave my PC overnight working on the backups. If you can make it not to conflict with your busy schedules, you will be able to keep up with the demands of this job. In short, don't complicate.

STICK with it - Just do it. Patience is key to your backup tasks. Once you have a schedule, stick with it. You must do this diligently every time it should happen. This is a tough challenge especially to busy people working online. But the sooner you discipline yourself and make backing up your files a habit, the more you will benefit from a worry-free online environment. In short, get a good habit.

EVALUATE - After a while, test your backup files. A good backup can be tested by simply restoring it on another system. Evaluating your backup results from time to time is good way to know that you are keeping what you should keep - a good and working backup. In short, be sure.

NO Complacency - After some time, your backup schedule may slip away and you will tend to forget or intentionally miss it. Don't succumb to this temptation. Man has never been so busy in his lifetime like it is today in this era of the high tech trends, new developments and discoveries. In short, don't be lazy to backup.

TRASH - Know which files to keep and not to keep. You need to do this to keep your backup process as short and as efficient as possible. It also saves you valuable resources like hard disk space and backup mediums. Backup only what you need. Keep out the trash and dump it. In short, don't sweat with the trash.

INTUITION - Have faith in your backup results. Believe that what you are doing is for your own good later on. Like vitamins that keep your body healthy, backups keeps your mind away from stress and worries. A good working backup will make you smile even on the worst of times because you are insured by your patience. In short, believe in good results.

AUTOMATE - Look for alternatives to traditional backup process that can make your life simpler. There are several technologies and softwares you can use now to generate the fastest and safest backup files you will need to restore in case of emergency without you lifting a finger. Automation is king in this lazy man's world. In short, be efficient.

LIBERATE - Free yourself from worries and anxiety of the unexpected. A death sentence that can be prevented will not kill you. So think about what you can do more (like sleeping more at night) than to think about what harm may come. With your own backup systems established, you can retire at night calmly knowing the next day, if you don't see your websites as you should, you know you can publish it back within the day even if your webhost cannot recover it for you. In short, relax and enjoy life to the max.

SECURITY - Nothing beats the feeling of being secured. This is the reason why the insurance businesses have flourished over the years. But more importantly, your commitment to backup your files will not only save you from stress, humiliation, frustration, anger and guilt, but also lift your spirit and confidence because you know at the end of the day, your self reliance is well worth it.

And that, my friend, is a great and wonderful feeling.

SSL Certificates-What they are?

With the growth of the internet and e-commerce, the online threats have also increased. Here I would like to give you some insight on how to prevent ourselves from such threats by using ssl certificates.

There is hardly any doubt that the Internet has successfully created new opportunities for e-commerce. However, that expansion has also attracted cyber criminals. This industry is always on the threshold of new threats from hackers. This is where a fraudulent web site impersonating a legitimate business attempts to woo unsuspecting visitors into divulging personal information. Until now we don’t have a solution of this problem, but now we have a wonderful solution in shape of a Secure Sockets Layer.

Secure Sockets Layer which is also known as “SSL certificates” is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This digital certificate is used with the most popular security protocol on the Internet. Without this encryption, packets of data travel networks in full view. Anyone can see the data and manipulate it to imitate other users.

Today maximum e – commerce sites are using this digital certificates to keep secure their customers valuable information. That’s why when we make a purchase on the Web and notice the closed lock icon at the bottom of our browser or the HTTPS:// prefix in the URL, it means now all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

Today gaining the trust of online customers is vital for the success of any e-commerce based business. Now any web server company can enable “SSL Certificates” in their web server and secure their data by using four simple steps.

These steps are:

1) Obtain SSL Certificate(s),

2) Produce a Certificate Signing Request,

3) Register for a SSL server certificate,

4) Establish the SSL server certificates.

Some time many companies find problem to manage their multiple sub domains security. For them there is another certificate is present which manage secure multiple websites with a single certificate. We call this wildcard certificate. This certificate is a cost effective and well-organized way of securing multiple sub domains without the need to manage multiple certificates. You may get ssl certificates, digital certificates, and verisign certificates from places like www.ssl.com , and other sites on the net.

When VeriSign issues an SSL Certificate it acts as a Certification Authority (CA). It digitally signs each certificates. Each browser contains a list of Certification Authorities to be trusted. When the SSL handshake occurs, the browser verifies that the server certificate was issued by a trusted CA.

Best tips to improve your web site

The most significant thing to remember about well-liked web sites is that they should always be rich in content.You first need to think about the communication you are sending to your own customer. The first page of your web site needs to be of brief description of your website. You page should not be too busy - attract visitors to dig deeper into your web site through the use of appealing text and attractive graphics.

Content information rules

The most significant thing to remember about well-liked web sites is that they should always be rich in content.

First impressions matters

You first need to think about the communication you are sending to your own customer. The first page of your web site needs to be of brief description of your website. You page should not be too busy - attract visitors to dig deeper into your web site through the use of appealing text and attractive graphics. If you are serious about your business through website then purchase your own domain name and don't use any "free" hosting service.

Design your sites and not the pages

Your first concern needs to be the site's complete design. When you are starting to design a new site from scratch, you can try to make a design, which would make sense to users, has a reliable look and feel, and is not too difficult to expand in the near future. The uniformity of design of a site is one of the factors, which differentiate amateur sites from qualified ones.

Get around easy

Your viewer should be able to easily navigate to any required page in your web site from one page to another page. It's again significant to link in a reliable, well thought out manner so that the users could learn to navigate. Have clear links on your pages and, if you are selling a product, make it trouble-free for people to purchase it! Show your business name; address, phone number and other E-mail address on every required page. Invite customers to get in touch with you with their questions and comments or feedbacks. Add links to other sites only when it is actually required, or on a particular links page at the end of your site. You desire visitors to go through your site before moving off to another!

Be a stranger

Once you are done with your web site outline, view it in other browsers. Does it look like you required it to look?

Keep it current

Come up with new reason for people to surf through and revisit your pages and suggest them to their friends. This could be in series of articles, tips, a daily cartoon, or other interest catching event. The words most probable to draw visitors are: Free and Special. Be sure you really offer something of worth if you use these words!

The 3 Things Needed To Turn a Good Web Site, into a Great Web Site

Alright so you have what you think is a good web site. Now what?

Alright so you have what you think is a good web site. Now what? What do you need to do to not only get it to earn its keep, but turn it from good to great?

Well, in order to have an effective web site of any sort, there are essentially 3 things that have to happen:

1. Your target market needs to know that both you and your web site exist in the first place. So let me ask you, do the people, who you need to know, that you exist, know that you exist? Additionally, what actions are you taking to build awareness?
2. Knowing is not enough, you need to persuade them to visit and in most cases, visit often. So what actions are you taking to do that? What’s in it for them?
3. So now they see the value your web site offers them and they finally do stop by, now what? Well you need to convince them to carry out your intended call to action… whether that is to sign up for your newsletter, comment on your blog, or to buy whatever it is you’re selling. Your ability to get your target market to take your desired action is the bottom-line determining factor of a great web site.

So in closing, you need to be aware that owning a web site is not a set-it and forget-it sort of activity. Without continually implementing the 3 things I just mentioned, your web site, any web site will simply become a money drain.

Make Your Site Easy for Your Visitors to Navigate

Site Navigation is a very important consideration of your website design. Your site should be designed so that the newest newbie can thread through your site without getting lost. It is the road map of your site so that your reader knows how to effectively navigate through it.

I had a good laugh the other day while researching this topic when I read that websites should be designed so even your grandmother or grandfather can find their way through it. I laughed since I am a grandfather which indicates that the site must be REALLY easy to navigate. – LOL.

What caused me to focus on this subject came from working on a particular website. Like most websites, it started with only a few pages and was easy to navigate. And like most websites, it grew and became more complex which complicated the site navigation.

The original site navigation pattern was a circular pattern where the reader would follow the links from one page to the next until he/she arrived back at the starting page. This works fine as long as there is never a break. However, we all know that during surfing, you have to get up and tend to something or you go off on a tangent to another page. When you return, it is sometimes difficult to determine exactly where you were. If the reader has to follow several page links back to the continuation point, frustration sets in and "click" the reader is gone.

To solve this site navigation problem, a navigation bar was added to the pages on the website.

A navigation bar ("nav bar"), is the basic tool for site navigation. Navigation bars are usually some form of java script. They are text, buttons, or boxes usually placed on the top or left side of every page. This allows the reader to quickly link to the main pages of the site. A feature that is usually incorporated in the nav bar is the nav bar entry for the current page is indicated by a change of color or appearance to show where you are currently located in the site.

Some HTML editors will build your navigation bar for you.When you build a page, you specify if you want the page included on the nav bar and if you want a nav bar on the page.

The best web host builds your nav bar for you. When you create a web page, you are given options if you want the page listed in the nav bar and if so, what the text on the nav bar should say.

As an aside … if you have a landing page on your site where you want the reader to take only one action (click to buy or click to subscribe), do not put any external links or a nav bar on that page. You do not want to give the reader a means of escape except to close the window.

If you include the nav bar on each content page, it gives the reader a uniform way to get from the current page to any other main page with one click which is desirable. A theory of site navigation says a reader should be no more than two clicks from any other page.

In summary, always consider how your reader will navigate your site. If navigation is easy, your reader will dig deeper and deeper into your site. If navigation is confusing or difficult, your reader will click away from your site and will not return. Work to make that navigation easy and keep your readers happy. Especially for grandmothers and grandfathers!

Web Development For Effective Success

Here are some of the basic things you can do to improve your search engine ranking on Google and other search engines. These are basic and I will be exploring and divulging more ways to boost your site on the search engine later in this online book.
Here are some of the basic things you can do to improve your search engine ranking on Google and other search engines. These are basic and I will be exploring and divulging more ways to boost your site on the search engine later in this online book.

Web Site Tips You Might Not Have Heard Of:

1. Keyword In Title: Not any keyword or key phrase. You have to use a keyword tool to find the most profitable search terms for your web site. Be sure to register a domain name with your keyword or phrase in the title. Otherwise, you’re at a tremendous loss. Having a catchy 'name' and registering that 'name' online then submitting it to the web will not be effective at first. It will take years to get to the top of the search engines if done this way. Catchy names are for offline businesses that want to attract simple minded people. Online, the search engines rule and you must follow their rules.

2. Keyword In Text Body: Take for example my web site, MankatoWebDesign.com. Recently, I wanted to optimize my web site for the keywords "Mankato web design" and "Minnesota website design". I went ahead and put these keywords in my text body in the exact order as they appear in the previous sentence. Search engines can be picky when it comes to keyword arrangement and this arrangement was the most searched of the different ways I could arrange the key phrases according to the keyword tool . Now, do not get copy + paste happy with your keywords. You must keep the key phrase down to 3-5% of your web page's total body text volume. Otherwise, the search engines will interpret "Mankato web design" as 25% of the body text as spam and treat your site like any good person would. They would throw it straight in the trash and probably not even index it to their listings.

3. Keyword At The Top Of Your Website: If you want to put your keyword at the top of your web site, do not assume the top of your page is truly the top. When you are using CSS, Tables, or Cells you might put your keyword where you think it should go. In reality, when the search engines crawl your page to be indexed it might grab your left hand side menu instead. In a nutshell, you have to work through your web site's code right after the < body > and find the first time you have text on your site. Ideally, this is where your keyword should be placed.

4. Keyword In Heading Tags: Only a professional web designer makes a site with a CSS style sheet. The CSS style sheet allows you to develop a web site with complete control over the color scheme, font scheme, layout, effects, and more. The CSS sheet will also allow you to control your < H1 >, < H2 >, and < H3 > tags. These heading tags are of most importance to the techno brain of a search engine robot. It has been shown numerous times that having proper header tags with your keyword in them will help expose your site beyond your expectations.

5. Keyword In Links: Links that go to your website that you posted somewhere and the links that leave your web site to another of similar content must be optimized. Ideally, your outgoing and incoming links should be like so: Mankato Web Design . Notice that the link is bolded to stress importance, it has the same keyword that I want to optimize for, and the web sites address contains the keywords I want to optimize for (MankatoWebDesign.com). Whether you're linking to your web site on the search engines, blogs, or in a discussion forum signature proper keyword linking usage is required.

6. Keyword In Image Names: Name your images the same name as the individual web page you're placing that image on. For example, say you did the right thing and made a page ../delicious_cook_new_york.html. They keyword your were looking to optimize for was "delicious cook new york." When you place any images on that page they must have some sort of connection with your keyword. You might try saving the image you place on that page as ../delicious_cook_new_york.gif

Please not the underscores. It has been long debated whether using a hyphen (-) or an underscore (_) is more effective at optimizing the various sections of your web site.

7. Keyword In Meta Tags: Using the example above, the first keyword in your META Tag keyword section should be "delicious cook new york."

8. Keyword In Image ALT Tags: ALT Tags are the tags you can place on your web site to describe a particular image. Use the keyword your optimizing for in your ALT tag but make sure not to get spammy about it if you have a lot of images. An example of how to do this is presented below.

Placing An ALT Tag On Your Site After The IMG SRC Tag

ALT="Delicious Cook New York Chef">

That's it for today folks. I hope this has helped some of you as it has I in ranking higher in the search engines. Do not forget to submit your web site to the search engines after you make these changes and good luck!

Business Process of Creating Web Templates

TemplatesFlow.com provides professional web site templates, flash intros and logo templates. Create any site using full web site and flash templates. Create corporate style using company logotype templates.

Every customer wishes to know all about the product he’s buying. He wants to be sure that it is perfect and meets all his demands. A lot of questions are on the tip of his tongue: Why does this product have such shape or color? Who approved it? What were the main criteria of its evaluation and price definition? Is this price defensible? And so on and so forth. However, in most cases he didn’t ask them for different reasons: personal interests of shop advisors, impossibility to verify their words, etc. That’s why everyone likes to be let into the holy of holies – the process of production.

In this article we’re going to make a tour of the Templates Flow workshop and lift the veil of secrecy from the process of web site templates creation. We’ll consider 10 phases of every template formation. They’re growing up before our very eyes, coming of age and leave our friendly family to find new one. We want to share our experience and pride with you. So, let’s start.

These 10 phases are organic and mutually connected. Any of them is an inseparable part of creative process. If you ever decide to deal with this sphere, read attentively in order not to miss some important aspects.

* Phase #1 – Marketing Research.

First of all we have to be sure that our child will be in great demand among the customers. Otherwise all our efforts and work won’t be worth a damn. To avoid such situation we should carefully investigate the final customer market, study all demands and wishes of our clients, etc. Results of such researches influence on the theme choice of the future templates. They must be topical and concerning the latest news. Only in that case we’ll get success.

* Phase #2 – Content Planning

After choosing the theme of the template we should think about its content. The main question at this stage is what information future web site will be carrying. It’s so-called structure of the site, because it’s well-known that every site has definite prevailing rules of its inner life organization. We have specialists responsible for that task. They follow all standards of content creation and know what information and sections should be in the site and what would be unnecessary. After finishing this part of the work the template is proceeded to the next stage.

* Phase #3 – Design

Now we’re deeply absorbed into the world of beauty. Unique ideas, bright solutions, innovative approches to the web design are the main characteristics of our designers. It’s the most creative stage in the whole process. Not everyone can cope with such tasks. It necessarily requires gift and experience. Our designers have them enough. But still they have to follow some unshakable truths – design must be original, simple and complicated in the same time, with easy navigation and without even allusion to the plagiarism.

* Phase #4 – Design Approval

Each final result of designer’s diligence is subjected to the strict test according to different criteria by our experts. They decide whether this design has right to be represented on the market or not. They take into account various aspects of the template design:

* originality and style
* conformity with the main purpose of a template
* scale must be original and background of the site should coincide with its theme.
* no plagiarism
* print must readable, formatted, of definite size and with various effects.
* simplicity and convenience of menue
* alternative navigation
* design of links, logotype etc
* developmental work of subpages
* quality of drawings and so on.

In case of some essential or inessential infringements, designers should remake it and correct all mistakes. Everyone likes perfection. And our company is not an exception.

* Phase #5 – Flashing

Every customer wants to have some unique peculiarities of his site. One of these distinctive features is flashing. Templates Flow professional staff of flashers diligently work at every project trying to find new bright solutions and unique ideas for animated add-ons to the future site.

* Phase #6 – Coding

Having successfully finished with the creative world, we pass on to the world of usual and earthy things such as coding. In other words our next task is to make our template function. It’s so-called page-proof. Each button, link etc. must work, and work properly. It’s final touches to the structure and design of our template. Now we’re on the last lap.

* Phase #7 – Quality Assurance

At this stage our experts decide the further fate of our template. They check it very attentively to pass the right sentence on it. They have no right for a mistake, because it’s their responsibility to answer for the quality of the template.

* Phase #8 – Price setting

It’s the most complicated stage of our process. No one has a firm belief that he can precisely fix the price of the template, because it’s the result of someone’s mental work and you know how it’s difficult to establish definite criteria and standards on one’s imagination and creative ideas. But still we have to do it. Our consultants responsible for the price setting estimate the type of the templates, presence of flash animation and and of course its appearance and design.

* Phase #9 – On-line Shop

At last our template has passed through all checks and tests and now it’s ready for the sale world. We place it in our on-line shop and wait for the customer.

* Phase #10 – Purchase Analysis

We are in the final stage of our tour. Our template has been purchased and we have only to make a general analysis of our work. What was made right? What were the mistakes if any? Have we gotten successful purchases and why? If not, what was the reason of our fail? What we should do to make it better? If we look at this questions, we’ll see that this phase is closely connected with the first one. Therefore, it’s not the end. It’s only beginning. We start our trip again.

As you see, our work goes on the circuit and our team is unbroken chain consisting of strong and stable links which of them tries its best for the final mutual result.

We hope you’ll like this article and it’ll help you while choosing a web template for your future site or creating your own Internet business dealing with templates creation.

Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance (PPPPP) - Building a Successful Website

Anyone who has been in business for any time knows the meaning of PPPPP. It is the mantra that a person should learn early in their lives to be successful.

Anyone who has been in business for any time knows the meaning of PPPPP. It is the mantra that a person should learn early in their lives to be successful.

Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance (PPPPP) is a simple yet elegant reminder that one must invest time to plan projects. The more time spent planning, the more successful the results.

Building a website is no exception to this rule.

Too many times a person gets a flash of brilliance on a topic for a website. Without properly checking the level of competition or without checking the popularity of the keywords for the topic, he/she picks a web host and throws up the website. Unfortunately, the odds say that the website has about a ten percent chance of succeeding.

I first heard about the "5P" (PPPPP) concept when I was a young lieutenant in the Army. My commanding officer was a stickler for planning, and I observed that his projects went smoothly, were completed on time, and were within budget due to his prior planning.

Building a website is a perfect example where the 5P concept works very well.

If the keywords for the topic of your website use are very popular and it will be very difficult for you to get listed on a search engine results page higher than number three, you are dead from the start.

To properly plan, you need a keyword research tool that helps you evaluate the various keywords of interest so you can isolate a niche where the competition is not too fierce. This will allow you to carve out your area of expertise and succeed.

The best web host will supply this keyword research tool to you as part of the web hosting fee. Do not settle for less.

You can find more information about finding the best web host on the-best-web-host.com. Do not settle for less.

In closing, remember the quote, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". This is restatement of the "5P" principle.

Good luck and good "5P" planning.

I Want the Meat. Not the Meat Wrapper!

One day while analyzing your website logs, you discover that most of your visitors hit one or two pages and then leave your website. What's up with that? You just revised your website with a fresh, new web template that is colorful, loaded with neat little features and other cool do-dads, utilizes a flashy little intro and you have a great product or service to offer. What happened? Your priorities are in the wrong order or you are completely off-base and living in an electronic fantasy. Let me explain.

If you had a web cam and could actually see the looks on the faces of your website visitors' as they are trying to navigate your website, you may be very shocked to learn they are using compasses and GPS systems to navigate through the untraditional maze.

Having seen thousands of poorly designed websites over the last 10 years and having been in the web template design business since 1994, our concepts are simple. Keep it basic but attractive and enjoy the reality of less website maintance while driving more "effective" traffic to your website. If your website visitors need a GPS to navigate your site or are too star-struck or browser-stuck by your graphic talents, your traffic is wasted and sales are lost permanently.

Are you ready for the cold, hard facts?

- FACT: "Most folks do not care about the talent level of your graphic designer."

- FACT: "They came to your website for information that will help them."

- FACT: "They want that information now and won't wait on excessive graphics to load in their browser. Nor do they want to have to click through 10 page levels which are loaded down with more graphics than meaty content. Remember: They came for the meat - not the meat wrapper!"

- FACT: "Most web template designers online today are not "web designers". They would be more likely considered "web graphic designers". There is a HUGE difference. It's called the WWW (world wide web) for a significant reason. That reason can be discovered by simply thinking about what it is NOT called, "WWG (world wide graphics)".

There are literally thousands of things you can do to get effective traffic to your website without expecting your website's design to persuade someone to visit your site or buy from you. Most template designers would like for you to believe that using a design labeled "professional or high-end" is exactly what you need to make millions on the web.

Most often "high-end" equates merely to a design that is pricey or heavy in unnecessary graphics and/or site features. Unless you are providing a product or service soley to the web design market, 99.9% of your site visitors are not concerned about how your site looks as long as it provides them with a sense of security, trust, professionalism and naturally a product or service they need.

Ready for another blunt fact?

Be proactive. Slap the palm of your hand against your forehead now, because after you read this, a lightbulb will simply explode in your head.

- FACT: "You will not find one of these "high-end" designs being used on any of the Internet's top ranking websites of which made their millions by online promotions. Why not? Because these designs are simply not effective for websites that are serious about accomplishing their objectives. If you are a web designer, you are doing your clients' an injustice by using non-effective designs on their website. You would be far more respected and get more client work by educating your clients about why they should use an effective design on their website vs. using one that is merely a fancy wrapper so thick that there is no room to put the meaty content or is too difficult to find."

What does an "effective website" mean?

An effective website means the site has a high rate of success accomplishing the website's objective. Your website's objective is to have someone buy your product, contract your service, join your mailing list, etc. Your visitors will NOT do any of these - ever - simply because your website is colorful or attractive. Sadly, that only happens in electronic fantasyland. Hey, I'm not saying that wouldn't be great; sure it would! But it's only a dream - an electronic fantasy.

While watching your website visitors through that imaginary webcam, you see their faces light up with overwhelming pleasure and radiant excitement after waiting three minutes for your website to load in their browser. They giggle and do the happy dance just before immediately grabbing their credit card and placing an order.

The Truth About Cookie-Cutter Layouts

What exactly is a cookie-cutter layout? If you have been designing websites for any length of time, you have likely run into this terminology. In most cases it is a term used to describe predesigned web templates. Generally, the person using this terminology is promoting their own product or service and is trying to sway your intuitive logic toward a mind-set that will benefit them even when it isn't to your advantage. What do I mean?

If you are up for a challenge, I'll give you one that will blow the lid off the cookie jar in regard to the term "cookie-cutter" layouts. Hey, someone has to tell the truth, so why not us?

Are you ready? Go to any web page on any web site. If you want to stir the cookie-batter bowl a bit, go to a web page created by someone who discourages the use of cookie-cutter designs and save the page to your hard drive. [ File > Save As ]

Now open this page into your HTML editor and strip it clean of all graphics, css, Javascript, etc.

What's left? Well, if you said HTML code, you would be right. Web page layouts are in fact just HTML code. They are the structure of your web page's design. Everything else within a web page is simply cosmetic (graphics/css) or interactivity functions (scripts). The truth is that regardless of whether you use a predesigned web template or develop your own design from scratch, there are only so many ways to effectively layout your web page's structure, no matter how you slice or dice it.

Try this challenge on a dozen or so websites and you will find that you are left with mostly HTML tables that may or may not be nested and all of them are very similar.

So are your ready for the truth? The truth is that ALL web sites' layouts are indeed cookie-cutter (if you want to use that terminology) regardless of whether you start with a web template or create your own website from scratch. But then your intuitive logic already told you that, right? You also likely saw through the transparent marketing technique of those who tout against the use of web templates.

If you try this challenge and you are not left with pure HTML code, then the structure of the web site you analyzed is likely not effective for a diverse group of traffic. An example would be a site that was designed with pure CSS. For more information about pure CSS, read our article, "Should you Use CSS-P (Table-Less Layouts) on Your Web Site?".

If you didn't know this, don't fret. Now you know the truth and as Paul Harvey would say, "... the rest of the story." So now what? As a web designer or a webmaster, you really only have three logical choices.

1. You can develop your own HTML layouts with graphics and spend many hours doing it.

2. You can purchase web templates that are basic (BasicTemplates.com) and which were built correctly with External Cascading Style Sheets and which many have the ability to swap out graphics, if you wish. This saves you tons of time which in turn saves you money. BasicTemplates designs can merely be a time-saving starting point or your site's entire, final design.

3. You can purchase web templates that box you in to using one design layout at a high-end price. What do I mean? BasicTemplates.com is currently the ONLY web template design site that provides designs utilizing external CSS and swap-out capabilities. These concepts quickly enable you to change your website's cosmetics (colors/fonts/graphics/etc) within seconds to change your site's theme or appearance at either no additional cost to you or for a small fee (if you purchase our graphics packages). BasicTemplates were strategically designed in this manner from the first day we developed our designs. Therefore, we were thinking outside of the design box and giving YOU the design freedom you deserve at a fee affordable to everyone regardless of your country of origin.

Is this article just another marketing sales pitch? Yes and no. Yes, because we are only once again explaining the sheer advantage of using a BasicTemplates.com design which could be defined by the perspective of some folks as a marketing tactic. No, because intuitively you already knew that the "cookie-cutter" terminology you may have read about defies web technology logic.

I'll leave you then with one final, entertaining thought. ;)

"Use a BasicTemplates.com design to step outside of that narrow design box. Then sweep those cookie crumbs into the recycle bin where all crumbs really belong."

Is Your Site Designed to Make Money?

If your answers to my questions above were "yes", then I have a little project for you to complete. Don't worry, it won't take long and it will improve your website's success instantly if you take what I'm telling you seriously (eve if you have been repeatedly advised otherwise) and apply the concept to your website.

Is your website's objective to make money? Is your website's success important to you?

If your answers to my questions above were "yes", then I have a little project for you to complete. Don't worry, it won't take long and it will improve your website's success instantly if you take what I'm telling you seriously (eve if you have been repeatedly advised otherwise) and apply the concept to your website.

I am going to ask you to visit a number of website template designers' websites. Make a list of those that are the most popular and that you feel provide attractive layouts. Now visit these websites one by one, and ask yourself the following questions. Write down your answers as you visit each web template designer's site:

1. What was the web template designer thinking when they designed their website?
2. What were they thinking when they designed the web templates they offer their customers?
3. Were they thinking "web site" or "graphics"?
4. Does their own website contain the majority of the same attributes as the designs they are selling? If not, why do you think they didn't design it in a similar manner?

Now I want you to think of all the successful online businesses that you know. Make a list of these too. Don't limit yourself to only the obvious such as Google, Amazon, eBay, etc. There are thousands of "silent" extremely successfully online businesses owned by mom and pop shops that pull in six figures minimum a year, and many more that pull in several million a year. If you don't know where to find these "silent" successful businesses, I urge you to hang out for awhile with some of the Internet's most successful marketing gurus. Find out who these "silent" successes are and then visit their websites. If your business is targeting a specific niche market, then visit those websites that you know for sure are making it big-time in that niche market.

When you visit these successful websites, ask yourself these questions and write down your answers:

1. Do they use Flash or anything animated?
2. Does their website contain excess graphics or graphics that have no real purpose?
3. How long does it take their website to load with your internet connection?
4. Take a look at their source code. Are they using External CSS with HTML tables or do they use pure CSS with exact positioning?
5. Do you think there is anything on their website (text, graphics, media, etc.) that is not in some manner making them more money?

Now compare your answers from the first list with the second. What are the major difference? I can assure you the differences will include the following:

Successful websites that pull in a high profit on a consistent basis ...

1. do not use excessive graphics that serve little to no purpose.
2. use only text (sales copy) and enough graphics to assist them in making money.
3. rarely use Flash or anything animated.
4. do not use pure cascading style sheets for their layout.
5. load quickly even on slow internet connections.
6. were developed by designers who are constantly thinking "web site" and not "graphics".
7. keep all of these attributes (#1 thru #6 above) secret because if everyone knew, they wouldn't be making as much money.

Now compare your website with the list of attributes you made when you visited the successful websites. What changes can be made? If you purchased a FAT web template or design layout, it will most likely be necessary that you will have to redesign your website the correct way. When I say "correct way", I mean in a manner that helps you accomplish a successful sales volume thus is "effective" for your company goals. This may or may not require you to completely redesign or seek an effective website template elsewhere.

If you seek a new template design that will help you design a successful website, first be sure to read our article, "25 Questions to Ask a Web Template Designer Before You Buy" so that you can get started on the right track.

Intro to SSI (Server Side Includes)

We are often asked by webmasters how to repeat web elements across their pages without have to edit each static page individually each time they need to make a change. External CSS is the answer to your web pages' cosmetic elements (fonts, colors, borders, padding, etc.), but SSI is a great tool when you want to use the same web element (navigational menu, page text, etc.) across multiple pages, but you do not want to change it on every page each time you need to add, delete or modify.

For example, let's imagine that you have a navigational menu that consists of five hyperlinks. You want to add a sixth link but your site consists of over 500 pages. With SSI you edit one file that contains the HTML code of your navigational menu (only), upload the revised file to your site and all pages are changed instantly. Yes, it is very similar to the magic of external CSS that we continually recommend. ;)

To be able to use SSI, your web hosting service must be able to support it. Most quality hosts automatically enable SSI on their servers these days. Many hosts require that you use a .shtml extension on your pages. Although some hosts can enable your server to utilize SSI with any page extension.

If you are not sure if your server supports SSI, no problem. Before contacting your hosting company, test it yourself.

Create a file and name it test.shtml. Within this file place the following code. Wherever you place this code is where the file "mytest.ssi" will be displayed (included).

Now create the mytext.ssi file that will be pulled into your test.shtml page. Put whatever you wish into the mytext.ssi file. If you are using it for a navigational menu, your code might look something like this:

Home | About Us | Contact Us

Important: You can use most any HTML code in your .ssi file. But do not use the standard BODY, TITLE, HEAD tags. Use only the HTML code for whatever web element you want to appear within the section it is being pulled into.

You are not limited to using the .ssi extension for your include file. You can use .txt, .htm, .html etc. Just be sure it does not declare the standard BODY, TITLE, HEAD tags or you will receive an annoying error message.

Name your include files something memorable so that you know what they are as soon as you see them. In other words, naming your navigational menu 1.ssi may not be the best choice unless you only have one .ssi file.

Save both files and upload them to your server to test whether your hosting company has SSI enabled for you. Load your test.shtml file into your browser, like this: www.yoursite.com/test.shtml. If it pulls the contents of the mytest.ssi into it, TADA! ... it worked!

If it does not work and you have followed these directions exactly, contact your hosting company to find out their requirements and/or limitations.

On another positive note, it is fairly easy to convert most of our web templates to use SSI. By simply copy/pasting bits/pieces of the original template into .ssi files and using the include code given above to pull the .ssi files into the location where these code bits/pieces originally existed, you can setup your web template to be even more effective and save you even more time. Pretty cool, eh?

How to Choose Website Templates

Since many of our HTML CSS web templates utilize the concept of removable header graphics, base your web template selection on the layout, ie. 1 column, 2 columns, 3 columns, right navigational menu, top navigational menu, left navigational menu, etc.

Since many of our HTML CSS web templates utilize the concept of removable header graphics, base your web template selection on the layout, ie. 1 column, 2 columns, 3 columns, right navigational menu, top navigational menu, left navigational menu, etc.

Purchase the website template layout(s) you need and then build your website. For example, if you need both a 1 column and 2 column template, simply select these template layouts from our pre-designed collection of more than 1000. It doesn't matter whether the header graphics themes are appropriate for your needs or if they match each other. What is important is that the layouts are what you want, and the header graphic is removable.

If you cannot find an appropriate header graphic in our gallery of more than 1,200 pre-designed header graphic images, we can design a low cost header graphic for you based on your website theme or target market. If you need an exclusive custom designed header we can do that too.

The biggest mistake most webmasters make is waiting to develop their website because they cannot find the right graphics or template. If you choose a template provider that understands effective website development, BasicTemplates.com (of course), the graphics can easily be added at any time. Developing effective web templates using external cascading style sheets with the capability of removable graphics has been our concept since 1994.

Building your website's content is the most important part of the process because content is what the search engines seek to index and what your visitors are looking for when they find your website. Don't waste valuable time fretting over graphics that are not "direct effective components".

Timing is critical when you launch a website, so don't spend your time on tasks that do not directly bring you sales or accomplish whatever goal it is you wish to achieve with your website. Reminding yourself of this simple statement whenever you start a new task, will shave hours off your development process and it will certainly save you money.
